So, the whole FaceJournal thing was rather off-putting.

The way it was done was VERY off-putting.

Meanwhile, DW are continuing to be awesome in every single way.

I'm still crossposting (as you might have noticed), but the conversation is moving over to my Dreamwidth entries. I'm mostly going to be shutting down comments on the entries here.

It's about Buffy.

I think I need a more obscure job description.

Went to a meeting yesterday, to prepare for another meeting. I was there because it was vaguely vegetation-related, and I do stuff with vegetation as part of my job. So, in our initial go-round-the-table-and-introduce-yourself, that's what I said.

Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that, in the entire department, I am pretty much the only person who has to deal with vegetation.

I am now in charge of a ten-minute presentation at the meeting, in which I will impart my Vast And Impressive Learnings Of Vegetation to the group we're dealing with.
(Said learnings have mostly been picked up by me reading random documents that landed on my desk, surfing websites about weeds, and having confusing conversations with people who use helicopter-mounted chainsaws and want to sell me things.)

*is suddenly rather nervous*

They screwed up Robyn's character.

(Preliminary note: I did actually enjoy this movie. Quite a bit, in fact. Given that this is going to be a post almost entirely made up of complaint, I should probably start with that.)

First it was the election.

Now it's the Grand Final.

Seriously, can't our country just make up its mind?

Note for uninformed people: The Grand Final ended in a draw - something which has only happened twice before. Now they have to play again next Saturday...

In other news, I spent Saturday watching the GF, bowling, going to a restaurant, and then going to a 21st - at which I fell asleep. Long day.

Yesterday I kept doing... well, the exact same surprising thing I was doing last weekend. It's going pretty well.

This is the one time of... well, ever... when I get passionate about the footy.

The Grand Final is tomorrow! Carn the Pies!

Tensions are running high in the office: loud jokes are being made about the parade today (with "It's Collingwood marching, so keep an eye out for pickpockets" being a running theme), and lots of Collingwood fans are stubbornly wearing black and white.

For those ignorant foreigners in our audience, the footy is played here:

And tends to involve a lot of this:

Also, Collingwood (my team) are the most depised one of the lot...

CARN THE PIES!!!

Here's a rather silly ficlet written for the "preschool" prompt at [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr.

It's rated PG-13 - entirely based on Faith's language. :)

I think I've figured out why I have such a big problem with what happens to Donna Noble: it's because of Dawn Summers.

TV shows that I love beyond reason: Buffy, Farscape, Frasier, Doctor Who, Tru Calling, Castle, Sarah Connor Chronicles

Shows from that list that I actually have stuff to say about: Buffy

The thing is, I love a lot of shows. But that doesn't actually translate into fic, meta, polls, vids, or anything else - except with Buffy, for some reason.

Now, though, I'm getting slightly weirded out: because for the first time in years, I seem to have discovered a show I might end up getting fannish about in the same way I am fannish over Buffy.

That being Avatar: the Last Airbender.

I love it. I haven't even finished watching it yet (dumb Aussie dvd releases *grumble*), but I love it.

And I predict that, if Avatar: Legend of Korra is anything like it looks like being, I'm going to end up with fic. And much meta.

Trying to find a bridesmaid dress? Tricky.

Trying to find one that will suit me and match what the other bridesmaid is wearing? Trickier.

Trying to find one that will suit me, match the other bridesmaid, and match the bright red dress the bride is wearing? VERY VERY HARD.

I am theoretically in favour of the philosophy that bridesmaids should wear different dresses, rather than condemning them all to radioactive green with frills - but in practice, it's a pain.

So, for the last few days...

I've done something very interesting... that's going to be a surprise for someone.

I've been very comforting... to someone having problems with something personal.

I've had a fascinating conversation... that was kinda confidential.

I've... um... eaten pasta? *shrugs*

This is the problem with having a blog that people read. I've done all this stuff that I can't mention - and have been so busy doing all of that, that I haven't had time to do anything I can talk about here...

(In other news, my team won the footy last week, and are in the Grand Final. Hooray!)

I was talking about Fred over at [livejournal.com profile] blackfrancine's journal, and (among other things) said the following:

Fred is a survivalist. Utterly. She will do whatever she can to keep herself safe. (Being enslaved in another dimension will do that to you.)
She latches on to the most protective guy. (Starting with Angel, who saved her in Pylea. Then she finds Angel and Lilah together, and Angel becomes unsafe, so it switches to the others.) Seriously - every single time she changes who she's interested in, it's because the Protectiveness Quotient has just changed.

I thought I'd give a brief summary of Fred's relationships, just to show you what I mean.

spoilers, obviously )

Somehow, in the next few weeks, I have to figure out how to write an essay.

People keep looking at me rather strangely when I say that. (Mostly people from my course - who are all Arts students, and spent their entire uni lives writing essays. They can't quite fathom that Engineering involved repeated maths problems and a complete lack of essays.)

Actually, thinking about it rationally, I should be able to do this easily enough. After all:

- It's only supposed to be 1500 words. In the last few years I've written 16 fanfics that were longer. Most of those only took an afternoon.

- I've written plenty of meta, and other almost-meta-ish stuff. That's basically like writing an essay.

- I wrote essays in high school. (Very badly - but still...)

But I've never written a uni essay before. And I really, really want to do well at this course. It's much more important to me than most of the things I've written - and thus much harder to write.

*sighs* I'll get there. Eventually.

I think I'm going to have to start devouring children's pop culture, just so I can talk to my nephews.

Yesterday, Caleb told me he'd watched Rack, Shack, and Benny. (From Veggietales.)

I know from experience that "Really? What happened in the story?" will get nothing but blank looks. But having seen R,S,&B multiple times, I could instantly ask "Really? Did they sing the Bunny Song?" and other intelligent questions.

This presents a problem. Because eventually, they're going to be watching/reading/whatevering things that I've never heard of - and I'll be back to "what happened?" and blank looks.

I can see myself avidly watching the latest Power Rangers equivalent...

I'm experimenting with tea.

I ran out, last week. So I dutifully headed down to the tea shop to stock up.

Usually, I'll buy one black tea I've had before (and know I like) and one that I've never tried. This time, I decided to be different, and buy a non-black tea I've never tried: Roses.

Yep. Roses. It smelled like pot-pourri; it tastes like... well, kind of like what you'd expect mushy petals in hot water to taste like. (Not good, in fact.)

I could always throw out my drinkable pot-pourri and return to familiar old black tea... but instead, I decided to experiment.

I am now drinking black tea (flavoured with a slight hint of vanilla) combined with a lot of roses. And with milk in it.

It's actually pretty nice...

In an episode of To The Manor Born, Audrey had a piece of advice: "If anyone ever offers you a horse called 'Utter Rubbish', buy it."

So, do you think a horse called 'Dunny' counts? Because he was pretty great - apart from his name.

(I went on a trail ride today. It was fun. I miss western saddles, though.)

My house is currently a messy chaotic wreck. :( I really MUST tidy it tomorrow morning.
