The Washing Of Cats

I just gave my cat a bath.

He's been coming in with grey fur recently, so I thought it was about time to return the white bits to their normal shade...

He looked so funny!
He was standing in the bath, covered in soap, stiff as a rod, mewling piteously - and I know I'm not supposed to take pleasure in the suffering of others, especially when those others happen to be my pets, but I couldn't stop laughing at how very silly he looked.

He has now spent a couple of hours licking himself back to his normal fluffiness - except he kind of went overboard into INSANE FLUFFINESS OF DOOM, and looks sort of like he's been electrocuted...

ooh, ooh- photo, photo! :-)

The one time we washed Hamish, he was petrified. Especially of the hairdryer.
Looked so cute with spiky fur though, hee. :-D

I agree with the above - photo! Photo!

Washing cats is a 2-person job.

One to wash the cat, one to take photos/video :-p

Is he still speaking to you?

Been there, done that...!

I love it when they go madly fluffy, but ours has too much Siamese to do that!

Aren't they pitiful? All soapy and soaked and...kinda wet-rat looking? :P

I've never had the balls to wash a full-grown cat, because I've washed plenty of kittens that tried to skin me alive! Still, between afixing band-aids, it was hilarious. :P

You hairdryered Hamish? Wow. No wonder he freaked out.

I've used a hairdryer on my dog, but I've never been brave enough to use one on Elf.

Well, he wasn't, but then I gave him lots of yummy bits of liver, so he likes me again...

Yeah, I still have a scar in my arm from the first time I washed my cat (four and a half years ago), when he tried to escape by climbing up my bare arm.

These days, I use a cat harness to hold him, and have a towel ready to drop over his head if he tries anything...

[identity profile] immer-am-lesen.livejournal.com 2008-11-23 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
We used a towel, but it was Winter and we couldn't get him dry enough and didn't want him running around with damp fur, so yes, we got the dryer out...
He survived, and forgave us not that long after.

So... did you have to employ the Towel of Doom?
And does the harness work?

No, and yes.

Cat harnesses are a brilliant invention.

I'm told that a clever way to wash a cat is by sticking them into a pillowcase with a bar of soap, tying the pillowcase up around their neck and then sticking them into a bath of water in it...
The logic being that they would thrash around and lather themself up, and they can't scratch you through the pillowcase.
I have never been game enough to do this...
