Most times, I figure them out right at the end. Sometimes, I won't even know it's the end until I've gotten there, and it'll be an "oh..." moment.

And even then, I'll sometimes have a surprise ending for the initial ending.

Also, I ignore rules for writing as well. I just...go with where the story takes me. Muse strong arms me that way.
