A Jump In Logic

Fact: Not all railway crossings are fitted with boomgates.

Fact: The presence of boomgates does not guarantee that no accidents will occur.
We know this, because several recorded accidents have taken place at railway crossings that are fitted with boomgates.

In fact: 67% of railway accidents in the last 20 years were at crossings that had boomgates.

Therefore: Only 33% of accidents were at crossings without any boomgates.

This means: Twice as many accidents happen at crossings with boomgates.

The Solution: By removing all boomgates from railway crossings, we will ensure that only half as many accidents occur...

I was introduced to the guy in charge of railway crossing safety on Monday, and this occurred to me while he was explaining his job. Didn't think that mentioning it would create a good first impression.
