A meme!

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Favorite character, favorite moment, unpopular opinion, something about a fic of mine... whatever. Subparts allowed. Wackiness encouraged.

Go nuts!

You mentioned in your Christmas round-up post that you went to a couple of church things, so I hope this isn't too personal a question, but what do you think of the way that religion (specifically Christianity) is/isn't handled within the Buffyverse?

Well, interestingly, watching Buffy helped to revive my interest in church...

I love the way redemption and sacrifice are considered exciting stories in the Buffyverse. It helped me to remember how exciting that stuff can actually be, if you look at it the right way.

I'm a big fan of the way the show tends to deal with religion. I love the fact that, in the Buffyverse, Christianity might be true (after all, holy water clearly does something...), or might not be, and the whole question is left very open-ended.

(I did, though, get very annoyed at the portrayal of the old lady in Where the Wild Things Are. She's so much a stereotypical "religion=BAD" character, and I thought it was a rather offensive depiction of religious belief.)
