A note to non-Australians

Whenever I see you guys talk about "rooting for someone", I start snickering - much in the fashion of a teenage boy.

"Rooting"? Over here, it's the crudest way you could possibly discuss having sex.

Feel free to keep saying it (after all, it's a perfectly legitimate word for you guys) but please be aware of the effect it's having on Aussies...

Differences between places that ostensibly speak the same language remain very funny. At this moment, I am writing about the pot plant in someone's room. These are not the same things in the US and the UK, and I have no clue what they are in Australia.

Last time we were in Australia, hubby and I were driving somewhere when a gardening show came on the radio. The presenters started talking about 'rooting compound' then proceeded to break up in hysterical laughter.

Hubby had no clue why until I explained it.
