skiing!
(269 posts on my flist to catch up with...)
I really wish I could show you photos of yesterday, but unfortunately I didn't take any.
(This might have something to do with the fact that I spent the majority of my time on my face, on my butt, or otherwise getting covered in snow.)
Spent the day at Mt Buller - one of the state's bigger skiing places. While I have been skiing before, I'm not all that good at it.
I mostly stayed on the "beginner's" slopes, but after lunch I was persuaded to try out an "intermediate" slope.
...which I got about 20 metres down, and then crashed. Stood up, got a few more metres, and crashed again.
Then got a bit further.
And then I faceplanted, lost a ski, couldn't get my ski back on, couldn't get off the slope...
Ended up sitting down, and sliding down the slope on my backside, pushing my skis ahead of me. (This is actually harder than it sounds: I spent a lot of this time flat on my face, desperately clutching at my skis as I slid forwards, completely unable to change direction.)
By the time I got to a flat bit, I was covered in far too much snow - and still had half the slope to go before I could get to the ski lifts!
Almost gave up and cried piteously.
In the end, I managed to get down the rest of it with only 7 more falls and 2 more instances of my skis falling off...
In short? Extremely fun day, extremely fun weekend, and I now have far too much internet to read.
