I think, with Spike, it's largely because of how ridiculous it sounds if you go the other way: Wike, Fike, and Gike - which are kinda odd. Xike - which is practically unpronounceable. Dike - which has... unfortunate connotations. Bike, Tike, and Hike - no. Just no.
