pet peeve

The number one thing that stops me reading crossover fanfics?

When Buffy isn't actually a Summers - instead she's a Grissom/Bartlett/O'Neill/Gibbs.

Or when Xander's real dad is the lead guy on the crossover show.

Or when Willow is the relative of the nearest Jewish cast member. Or the nearest redhead.

Putting Dawn in a different family works okay - because, hey, monks making different decisions or whatever. (But it would be kinda nice if Glory actually chased her into the crossover show, once in a while.)

But otherwise? There are other ways to get crossovers to occur. And I'm sick of all the new family members.

I write and, to a lesser extent, read crossovers all the time, and this is one I haven't stumbled across yet (maybe I'm reading the right stuff?). But no wonder it's one of your pet peeves. How obnoxious. Especially if you see it again and again.

Though I will admit that I have this epic never-will-actually-be-written story in which Joyce Summers marries Keith Mars, and Buffy and Veronica kill vampires and solve crimes together and and Wallace and Mac hang out with Willow and Xander and Spike falls in love with Veronica and Logan falls in love with Buffy, and it's all very, very snarky and epic.

OMG I WOULD SO READ THAT.

I used to have that icon! *misses it*

Ha! Well, apparently the idea is popular! I'm so pleased to know that!

*muses*

*dies* OMG please yes. I'll help you write this! C'mon, c'mon! Veronica Mars is like my second favorite show next to Buffy!

I HAD THIS CRAZY DREAM. No, seriously. I had this dream. What was weird was that in half of the dream I was Veronica, and then I changed and was Buffy. In that way that dreams have.

I might take you up on that. Because I just can't see myself writing it by myself, but maybe, with our combined awesomeness....

That sounds like an awesome dream!

Okay, so would it be like Joyce marries Keith and this means Buffy moves to Neptune instead of Sunnydale? And would Willow and Xander already be there and maybe it'll be like Veronica and Buffy keep running into each other when they try helping people. Like the first day when Veronica goes to cut Wallace off the pole, Buffy's there on the other side and Buffy's thinking 'Okay, I know why I have a weapon, but what's this chick's deal?' and Veronica would be like 'Girls handy with a blade. Witness my suspicious nature ding ding dinging for Neptune High's new teenage delinquent.' And poor Wallace is probably embarrassed but also grinning that these two pretty blonde girls are all over him. Hee!

Yes! It was with the Summers moving to Neptune! I think the dream must have been prompted by someone saying once that they thought that Neptune must be a Hellmouth because so much bad stuff happened to people there.

And I lovelovelove your idea with Wallace on the flagpole! *loves Wallace*

I feel that I need a "tiny blonde girls are my hero" icon.

You're definitely reading the right stuff!

It doesn't tend to happen on my flist, but over at Twisting The Hellmouth it's rampant.
Seriously - 8 out of 10 West Wing fics mention Willow being related to Toby (I think his name's Toby) in the summary, there was a whole page of Stargate crossovers where every single summary mentioned "Sam's new daughter" (Buffy) or "the General's granddaughter (Buffy) or "O'Neill's niece" (Buffy), and Xander is the long lost son of just about every hero in the history of fiction...

Ugh. That really does sound awful.

I haven't visited over there. Is it just dedicated to Buffyverse crossovers? Too bad it has this annoyingness going on, because that's so my sort of thing. I think I'll stick with [livejournal.com profile] choco_cherries and [livejournal.com profile] choco_truffles instead.

Yeah, it's a site purely for crossovers.

There are some quite good ones in there, but I tend to rely on recs to find them. Just looking through the site randomly, you'll find a lot of long lost relatives...

Do you respond to any kind of bribes? I want that story. Pretty please?

Bribes, eh? PIE. I am very, very susceptible to pie. ;)
