That. Was. GORGEOUS. So many favourite moments and worked in so perfectly that I almost didn't see the dancing hippos behind it all. :-) I'm crowning this the video of the year (yes, on January 2nd, what of it?)
There's no words to convey how much I loved this! BRILLIANT!!!
The timing with the music (an excellent choice in itself) was superb throughout the whole video! And I loved how the mood of the clips and the mood of the music went hand in hand. It's hard to choose the best part, but I'd say my favorite part was the fast-paced S6. Or maybe the later half of S5.
I'm so going to save this to my Buffy video archives.
I loved the way that you planned it out so that the narrative beats follow the sections of the ballet music. Much as I love the Fantasia section that uses The Dance of the Hours, this is actually truer to the way the dance scene in La Gioconda is a microcosm of the whole opera's blend of the happy and the sad; some good people get to walk away from the situation but others have to sacrifice themselves to bring that about. Which is closer to BTVS than it is to hippos and ostriches and crocodiles.
Wow! So wonderful. I was getting a little worried when the madcap section started: how would season 6 & 7 fit in? But it was marvelous, and sort of echoes my experience of watching, which was to watch faster and faster (on DVD) as the story drew to its exciting conclusion. Whew! I am still a little breathless!
Omigod, THAT WAS SO COOL. (And I get the "it's in order, I can't explain!" thing now. My hatred lessens a bit. :P)
For some reason I really loved specific moments going in time with the music - Darla fanning out her skirt, Spike raising his eyebrow, stuff like that. And then just how you arranged the speeds and pacing and everything - so awesome.
It was already brilliant, but it went to another level at 5:38 when Buffy sees the light and knows and then the switch to the frantic pace of her resurrection.
Well. I watched this this morning and went, "Um. Well, it was nicely timed, and lots of ...stuff... happened. Yeah." Then I tried to show Matt, who is vaguely familiar with the source material and who might, therefore, be able to appreciate it a bit better. And even though the whole thing was downloaded completely, the stupid computer kept stopping the video every ten seconds or so. So he didn't even get to see ANY of the timing. However, he diligently sat there to the end, even though it took, like, 15 minutes to watch.
So, um.
I'm glad you've finished it, and I hope lots of people enjoy watching it and I hope you get lots of compliments better than this one.
This was great, I love the combination of the many funny little moments that I hadn't thought about for ages but make up the heart of the show, and then all the really major events. Wonderful timing.
1. Wow. 2. That massive comment where you explained it all? You're thorough. Very, very thorough. Must be what makes you such a lovely beta. 3. Your timing was amazing (The switch from quiet to loud around 5:50 - perfect), and the beginning was just full of lovely shots. 4. I really, really need to watch Buffy again. It's just so good. And everything you make or write reminds me of that.
Anyway darling, beautiful work. Now, on to your other gems!
Nice. It was, at times, a little hard to keep remembering what each scene was from before it had moved on, but ignoring me not having seen the earlier seasons for a while, I liked it.
I approve of the end of season 5/beginning of season 6. I think the change is good, and the music fits it well. While I generally thought the faster pace worked for seasons 6 and 7, it just seemed kind of wrong for Tara's death. I saw that for the first time only a few days ago, and it kind of hit me a bit. I don't think the vid did her death justice.
Other than that, no complaints, it was a very well put together vid, and I enjoyed it.
Oh, this was a really beautiful! Excellent choice of music, and I just adore the way the images work to the rhythm. Great choices for shots. I really, really enjoyed watching this; it really captures so much of the show!
