It's interesting that America is so split on the whole thing.

(Here, the biggest issue seems to be what you wear for swimming: are they bathers, swimmers, cozzies, or togs?)

Trunks for men, cozzies for women. (You can also prefix 'swimming' to either of those words to make it clearer).

As for soft drinks; probably 'soft drinks' or the specific type. 'Pop' as a child in the north of England.

Orrr bathing suit vs. swim suit/trunks. We're not all Aussie-cool with the 'er' at the end of stuff.
