Too Much Paperwork

In order to do a post-graduate course at my uni, I need to have a copy of my secondary school results.

This being the same uni I did my original course at - the course that I couldn't have got into without the uni seeing my secondary school results, way back then.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't they already know that I finished secondary school?

I have now spent several hours searching every corner of my house, rung five different organisations, each of whom told me to ring a different one, been lectured on why I'm being dimwitted and disorganised by a phone-answering lady, and handed over $31 so that I can get a piece of paper proving that I did, in fact, finish secondary school.

*sighs*

What a pain. But expecting university admin to be sensible is futile. I used to know where to put my hands on all those documents but now I haven't a clue.

Maybe you should call the uni admissions office and see if they still have your secondary school results on file from the first time you applied?

Ah well. My next suggestion would be "find a more organized uni." That is rather ridiculous.

Did they tell you what happened to your file? Or did they just say, "we can't find it". 'Cause that would make me really tempted to say, "OK then, according to privacy legislation I have a right to access the information you have about me. Who do I talk to to arrange that?"

But only because they annoyed me.

Ugh. I hate bureaucracy. That's stupid. *hugs*

Professional Editing.

(I thought I'd told you that?)

It's always the same... as if they don't really believe that the person in the other admin office really did look at them... and that person would think the same about them.

Speaking as a bureaucrat...

... all bureaucracies run that way. "Here is a hoop. You will jump thru it precisely as we demand. Repeat until insane".

(I recently had to make a full university application and matriculation process to take a nine-week extra-mural course by distance learning. And pay an extra £150 for the pleasure of registering as a full university student, to no discernable personal benefit. I am bitter).
