*headdesk*

Please to be noting the tag on this post. This whole debacle is getting truly ridiculous.

Having accepted my course (finally), I now have to enrol.

...which I just tried doing.

I have three subjects to enrol in - all of which have "co-requisites". Those co-requisites being... the other two subjects. Because, if you're doing any one of the subjects, you also have to do the other two.

And the computer system WON'T LET ME APPLY. Because...

Wait for it...

No, really...

......."You can't do subject A - because you haven't done subjects B or C yet. And, no, we won't let you do subject B. Because if you're going to do that, you have to be doing subject A (which you haven't successfully applied for yet). And no, subject C is out of the question. You can only do that if you're also doing the other two."

This is happening while I'm trying to enrol in ALL THREE AT THE SAME TIME.

Aargh!!!

I'm sorry, but this is an editing course, and they haven't even edited their own database. Are you sure you want to go there, they don't sound very good.

The uni's actually very good. (And huge - it's not just editing stuff. I did my Engineering degree there.)

They just suck at this stuff.

I have a similar problem with a semester 2 core unit. You have to be in a different course to enroll.

OMG! I know it can't be fun for you but thank you; that made me LOL and I needed that. :-) It brings back memories of similar stupidities when I was enrolling for units at Curtin Uni.

I remember the lecturer in one of my computer units who told me that they'd recently been instructed that they could not award a grade of 100%. Why? Well, to save storage space in the uni database they were storing the mark as a character var instead of an integer... and they'd only allocated a maximum of two characters space. (This was back in the 80s when disk space was still a serious and expensive issue.)

Good luck in sorting it out.

You need to contact someone with authorization to override the rules. Usually this would be the lecturer (sometimes also assistant lecturers), and they also sometimes let the admin staff do it.

I think this is a perfect example of the kind of situation that the phrase "Catch 22" was invented to describe. :-/ *sympathises*

Sounds like it's time to call the registrar or an academic advisor. Our computer system has odd registration blocks sort of like the ones you describe built into it, and the only way to get permissions is through the various powers that be.

Good luck!

Ewwwww that sucks. :(

Funnily enough, the part of this post that made me laugh was not your pain but "enrol" instead of "enroll". Maybe that's just a typo and not how Aussies do it, but I prefer to think it's Britspeak.

Definitely Britspeak, AFAIK. :)
