Would very much like to smash something about now...

Lilac was still having issues. My housemate suggested that this might be because the newest updated version of all my applications is designed for SNOW LEOPARD, which I hadn't installed.

So I installed it.

...or tried to.

Instead, it refused to install, and erased my hard drive.

AAAAAARGH!!!!!

Thankfully, I still have all my files saved from the last four installations I have done. On the other hand, "all my files" only includes the stuff I saved on May 15th*. And I now need to reinstall them all. Again. And set up my internet. Again. And set up all my settings. Again.

* as opposed to... for example... my uni assignments.

AND MY COMPUTER IS STILL STUFFING UP.

'Tis sadly true

I too have a love/hate relationship with my computer. No-no-no, I LOVE my computer; we're joined at the hip, the computer's being metaphorical. It's the techno gods whom I hate, because they first hated me and made me aware of their antipathy. Add to that the problem that I'm a techno moron. I don't know how to use the little memory sticks do-hickeys, or is it do-maflatchies? Thingumajigs? In German, it's Dingsdumps. Really! At least you know how to do the back-up thing. If interested in explaining it to the technologically and, in all likelihood, mentally backward, contact me. I'll be pathetically grateful.

Are you sure you aren't trying to install SL on a machine that isn't designed for it? I think some of the newer operating systems require hardware that doesn't exist on older machines.

Well, the machine in question is about 8 months old - so I doubt it.

Ah, okay. I forgot that you'd bought a new one recently. So much for that theory, then. :)

I'd offer to stab your computer, but I'm not sure that would help.

Oh, please do.

Eep. At least you had a full back-up.

My motto is never trust computer software named after a type of cat. *nods sagely*

Oh man, computer issues are the worst. We never fully realize how much we need them until we can't use them again. Last weekend I spent about four hours on the phone with someone, walking them through fixing a corrupted registry. It was nuts.

Well, it was the last thing left I could think of... Sorry it failed :-(

Ohhhhh, baby! That's so terrible. I hope things get vastly better soon soon soon! *hug*

*additional hugs and comfort*

So... you only bought Lilac eight months ago? Or is that referring to something else?

My friend's laptop is spluttering too. It has no hard drive. Like... there's just no directory where files can be saved. It disappeared one day. She has programs... but no files. It's weird.

Yep. New lovely computer. *huggles her*

How... odd.
