The song I've got stuck in my head right now?

"There's a spot over here, and a spot over there, there's a spot on your ear, and a spot on your hair..."

For those of you who haven't seen enough Playschool or have otherwise had deprived childhoods, this is a song usually sung by three year olds.

I spent my shower enthusiastically singing "It's a SPOTTY KIND OF DAY..."

It won't go away.

I skipped right to first grade and besides, I went to school in the States, so...nope, don't know that one. We're more "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" types over here.

I was going to taunt you by finding a video of the song, but as it turns out there are practically no Play School videos on the internet. Even Youtube, bastion of old memories, has only a few.

This has made me inexplicably sad. I feel I have to take my Australian childhood on faith without the evidence there...

Also, dammit, I had to Google the lyrics, and now I have it in my head. Now I have to inflict it on all of you:

There's a stripe over here, and a stripe over there
There's a stripe on your ear and a stripe in your hair,
There's a lot of little stripes in the air, everywhere,
Its a stripey kind of day.

Repeat with dots, circles, loops, squiggles, etc.

On the plus side, it's kinda pleasant with the simple piano piece that plays with the song...

I don't think I've ever encountered that one before. Must be an interesting tune.

We didn't sing a great deal in school, though I know "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider". Most of the children's songs I remember are church music, like "I'm In the Lord's Army".

Is it just my brain cells decaying, or did they sing it "Incey wincey spider" in Australia? Because that's what I used to sing... I think...

Oh dear.

You have no idea what you're getting into, do you?

That's one of the longest-running arguments on my LJ ever.

Okay, that's pretty intense.
I'm loving your polls of pedantry. They're just the smallest, most trivial things... and everyone is like, NO, YOU'RE WRONG! GO AND SIT IN THE CORNER AND THINK AND YOU WILL SEE THAT I AM RIGHT!

PS. Playschool was the best. Back in my childhood I didn't need an iPhone or a Bratz doll with a coordinated seasonal wardrobe. If I had a pipe-cleaner, I was the king.

Haha. I have to enter a CAPTCHA to post this, and the words are "morning combat". Sounds like a great way to start the day.

You should come and hang out with my son - he's very into that song at the moment and would love to have Auntie Deird singing it on repeat!
