I'm told that a clever way to wash a cat is by sticking them into a pillowcase with a bar of soap, tying the pillowcase up around their neck and then sticking them into a bath of water in it... The logic being that they would thrash around and lather themself up, and they can't scratch you through the pillowcase. I have never been game enough to do this...
