I think I've figured out why I have such a big problem with what happens to Donna Noble: it's because of Dawn Summers.

this might require more explanation... )

So, back to shipping…

I have three basic things which turn me shippy:
1) the two of them are enemies
2) one of them can’t say “I love you”
and
3) one person is more invested in the relationship than the other one

Let’s talk about the third one.

River Song might just be one of my favourite fictional characters ever.

- If I could get rid of everything else in the comics, but leave Satsu, I'd be rather happy with that. She kinda rocks.

- I am utterly and completely squicked by Castiel (from Supernatural) and what happened to Donna (in Doctor Who), but have absolutely no problems with Dollhouse. Weird...

- I need many more icons of Dawn. And of Buffy.

- The Heroes writers really should have stuck to their original plan and had each season focusing on an entirely different group with a totally different plotline. I think it would have worked.

- Matt Smith is fast becoming my favourite Doctor ever.

In other news, my cat is being bossed around by a kitten approximately one-eighth of his size, my house is recovering from a fondue party, and my remix fic will NOT GET WRITTEN.

Spending this evening eating Thai food, cuddling a teeny kitten, and getting to know the Eleventh Doctor.

First thoughts? Moffat is just incredible.

It's funny, because I've never seen any Doctor Who that wasn't done by RTD - and yet, when I see these new episodes, I sit there going "Ahh... that's what it used to be like..." as if there's some pre-Nine show that I'm remembering (despite it never existing) that was exactly like this one.
It's been given a tiny extra amount of fairytale - and become precisely the kind of show it's supposed to be.

Anyway... KITTEN! *cuddles him some more*

(I realise I keep going on about this, but it’s bugging me…)

I’ve decided that one of the main problems with Torchwood is that it’s trying to be Angel, when it should be trying to be Going Postal.

spoilers for New Who, and for Torchwood seasons 1&2 )

Rather randomly, it has occurred to me that, really, Buffy has a lot in common with the Ninth Doctor.

spoilery meta on both of those characters )

You know what I’ve realised?
I just don’t understand how someone can like a show, and not like all the characters.

I mean, I’m aware that it’s possible. I know a lot of people who can’t stand various characters, and are still definitely fans of the show – so clearly this is just me being odd, but still… I have no idea how that works.

It’s certainly not the way I work.

(Okay, so I was bored.)

Here's a multifandom poll, just for fun.

So, along with the whole enemies in love thing, I think I've figured out another thing that turns me into a rabid shipper...

At least one of the pair cannot say "I love you".

more on this idea )

...and in other news, the eleventh Doctor will be five months younger than me.

*feels rather old, all of a sudden*

Okay, so David Tennant isn't the only fantastic actor in the world.

And my future happiness isn't actually dependent on what happens in Doctor Who.

That being said...

The moment when I realised that I would love everything about this show/book/movie...

very minor spoilers within )

A poll of great silliness, involving quite a few of the TV shows I know well.

So, there's this broken machine... )

Also: apparently half my flist likes country & western music. Who knew?

I think I've figured out why I love the Spuffy relationship so much more than I like Buffy/Angel.

And it's quite simple, really, because it's the same reason that I like almost all the couples I'm madly shippy about.

One's good, one's evil, and they're in love anyway. )

They really are starting to get good at bittersweet, aren't they?

Donna, destruction, and Deutsch Daleks )
deird_lj: (Default)
Just one thing to say right now.

Daleks talking in German? That is the very definition of awesome.

After careful consideration, I've decided that I'm watching:

the House Is So Snarky And Awesome show
the Ten And His Sonic Screwdriver show
the Harvey Is The World's Best Hallucination show, AND the Crichton/Aeryn show
the Gaius Is So Crazy show
the Fred Burkle show, AND the Angel/Darla show
the Jen Lindley Has Incredible Hair show
the Niles/Daphne show
the Jack O'Neill Snarks With The Best Of Them show, AND the You Seriously Expect Me To Believe That Insane Physics? show
the Harrison Davies show
the Ziva, Abby, And Ducky show, AND the Gibbs Hits People On The Back Of The Head show

...and, when it comes to BtVS, far too many to list - including the Tony Head Variety Hour, the Spuffy show, the Tara Maclay Is Secretly Snarky show, and the Awesome Soundtrack show.

About half an hour before watching Turn Left, I was watching Normal Again.
You know, seeing that many alternate realities being played with so expertly can really do strange things to your brain.
