Yes, okay, I admit it: I'm a Spuffy fan who wants to read Buffy/Angel fic.

My problem is, whenever I see someone reccing a Buffy/Angel story, it's a post-series fic. Which I think is kind of missing the point.

Like I said, I'm a Spuffy fan. Top on my list of people Buffy should end up with is Spike (with the runners up being Xander and Faith, in no particular order). Whenever I see Buffy and Angel together post-series, my first thought is always "But... what about Spike?", which makes it kinda hard to concentrate on the story.

That doesn't mean, though, that I don't like the Buffy/Angel relationship.
I think it's quite nice, actually.

And I'd love to see some nice, romantic, slightly fluffy fic for their relationship... set in seasons 2&3.

Because, ultimately, the Buffy/Angel relationship I liked was not the potential post-series one - but the actual early-seasons relationship we got to see on-screen.
When I go looking for Buffy/Angel fic, that's the relationship I'm hoping to find.

Unfortunately, fandom seems to be under the impression that, for a relationship to be truly meaningful, the two participants absolutely must spend the rest of their lives together - and Buffy/Angel fics therefore become dedicated to proving that they'll definitely be together post-series, rather than taking some time to enjoy what they actually had.

It strikes me as a little like changing the end to Casablanca because, obviously, it's not true love if they don't end up together.

And it sorts of starts going from True Love means They End Up Together to They End Up Together means True Love - and therefore, clearly, if they don't end up together, it wasn't true love.

Which makes it tricky for me, because I don't want Buffy and Angel to end up together... and I still really like the pairing and think it was nice.

Clearly, I am illogical and must be shunned.

But really, is there anything particularly wrong with knowing a relationship won't last forever and still wanting to celebrate the good parts of it while it's still there?

Yes, that's right:
-I want to read fluffy Buffy/Angel fic from early season 2.
-I want to read sweet Willow/Oz fic from late season 3.
-I want to read romantic Giles/Jenny fic from season 2.
-I want to read sexy Fred/Gunn fic from season 3.
-I want to read incredibly-screwed-up Wes/Lilah fic from season 4.
-I want to read guilty-solace-having Spike/Anya fic from Entropy.
-I want to read hopeful Cordelia/Doyle fic from season 1.

...and then I want all those relationships to keep going exactly the way they did on-screen.

Hi! I'm Mez, and I'm a Spuffy fan who likes other ships.
