I feel like I'm living in a farce.

I go round to R's desk, to talk to him about some projects. R sits on the other side of the building from me, so it's quite a long walk.

R is on the phone.

However, R sits right next to N, so while I wait for R to get off the phone, I mention a letter I'm writing to N, and point out a problem I'm having with it.

N asks if he can see the letter.

So, I walk round to my desk and get the letter. But I leave the projects information there, because R is obviously going to be on the phone for a while.

As I near N's desk, his phone rings. But right then, R hangs up.

Note: I have now gone from
1) talking to N while holding the information for R
to
2) talking to R while holding the information for N.

R is very interested in my question, but really needs to see the papers I have before he can answer.

I walk round to my desk (I'm getting very fit by this time), and collect the papers for R. Having learnt from experience, I do NOT leave the letter there.

I walk back round to N and R's desks, and THEY'RE BOTH ON THE PHONE!!!!
