People have asked me before why I am a "cat person" when dogs are so incredibly friendly by comparison. And, really, I think that's kind of the point. My dog will get excited over anyone who walks through the door. My cat will see someone enter, and he'll go right back to what he was doing. When it comes to strangers, he couldn't care less.
And this morning, I walked out into the kitchen and picked up the newspaper, and my cat heard me from three rooms away, and came racing out to say hello! And I picked him up, and he promptly started purring like his life depended on it.
And that's why I'm a cat person. If my dog had done that, I would have dismissed it as "just what dogs do". But cats don't notice everyone, so when they notice you, you feel unbelievably complimented! A really nice ego boost to start off the day...
