Stuck In Place

People think she's shallow.
And she's not. She has a lot of very serious concerns.
The recent altar-dumping.
The bullet that killed a dear friend.
The vengeful witch who stormed in here, froze her in place, sucked the books dry, got a change in hairstyle, and is now probably off hunting geeks.
The pile of sucked books, which are now completely worthless and unsellable.
The likelihood that things are going to get much, much worse.
The fear.
She really isn't shallow.
But right now, shallow or not, there's only one thought in her head:
Wow. I really have to pee.

No More Denial

It's a complete reassessment.
Rebellious teen becomes heroic fighter.
Sulky silence becomes necessary secrecy.
Lack of direction becomes mystical destiny.
Psycho boyfriend becomes psycho vampire boyfriend, which... doesn't really help.

Every memory must be reconsidered.
What about the time when... oh, just a demon attack?
Apparently, her daughter has not been sneaking out to wild parties, experimenting with drugs, or joining a gang.
She's just been saving the world.

Re-evaluating yet another event from the last two years, Joyce closes her eyes and longs for the days when she thought her daughter was only burning down buildings for the attention.

Turning Ten

Three people rode a carousel for a whole hour.
(Or maybe two people went out for icecream sundaes... It was hard to tell.)

"Necessary frivolity" she called it.
Her daughter (or maybe daughters) had had a tough year, what with divorce, expulsion, and a new town.

They needed fun - and the birthday party was the perfect opportunity.
(And it wasn't a special occasion - just a normal Wednesday - but they decided, on a whim, to buy fancy icecream and celebrate the fact that it was a Wednesday.)

The sundaes were delicious, and wonderfully extravagant.
(And the carousel went round and round.)

Teacher

Willow gritted her teeth. "Look. Do you want to learn how to do this?"
There was a chorus of mumbled agreement that yes, they probably did.
"Then stop bickering, and form the damn Circle of Sucellus!"
The girls arranged themselves.
"Uh... Miss Rosenburg? Is this okay?"
"That's a square. If I wanted the Square of Sucellus, I would have said so."
"How about this?"
"That's a triangle."
"How about the... Rhombus of Sucellus?"
Willow just glared.
After much discussion, some hair-pulling, and two girls leaving the room in tears, it was agreed that the Oval of Sucellus would probably do.

Haircut

Did you think it would change you?

Shining pieces falling to the floor.
Very pretty, but not enough.
The addict is still upstairs.
The bureaucracy is still at the door.
The little girl is still wounded and angry.
The vampire is still the only comfort.

Poor little Goldilocks, running from the big bad bears.
Did you really think you’d get away?

Shining golden pieces drop, one by one.
Did you think you’d be any different? Any better?
Sorry honey, but they lied. Image isn’t everything.
A change won’t change your world.

Did you think the scissors would set you free?
