Spin Cycles and Plurals

I was woken this morning by a machine launching itself through my ceiling and into orbit ...only not really.
In other news...
Despite my insane word geekery, I have only just realised that "cigarette" means "little cigar".
And, also on the word geekery front, someone at work pluralised "basis" as "bases" (pronounced the same way as "appendices") and for a second there I fell madly in love with him...
My washing machine has a time-delay option, so that you can set it to start in the middle of the night, and finish spinning at around breakfast time. The advantage of this is that you can put clothes out to dry first thing in the morning. The disadvantage is that the washing machine starts in the middle of the night. And my washing machine is LOUD.
It's fairly mild, actually, until it gets to the spinning part. Then it starts sounding like a combination of a table-saw and a rocket. And my bedroom wall starts shaking.
On the bright side, I didn't sleep through my alarm this morning.
