Much Revelry

I had a fondue party last night, with a whole bunch of friends from uni.
It was extremely excellent.
Unfortunately, as tends to happen, I now have:
-5 dirty wine glasses
-6 dirty glasses of the non-stemmed variety
-a whole lot of other dirty dishes
-extra un-used bread
-extra un-used dip
-half a kilogram of defrosted raw prawns
-half a bottle of white wine
-no leftover cider
-an incredibly dirty tablecloth
We also managed to set the stove on fire. (I have an electric stove.) That was fun.
*****
In other news, I've been growing my hair in a deliberate attempt to be able to get it off the back of my neck on 40 degree (104 F) days.
And I succeeded!
Just in time for a full week of 40 and 41 degree days.

Date: 2009-01-28 10:08 pm (UTC)Being a fondue party, we had burners with metho in them. And, being very sensible, I decided that we should light the burners over the stove, rather than on the table.*
Unfortunately, as well as being sensible, I'm also a complete klutz.
When I poured the metho into the burners, I managed to spill a fair bit of it onto the stove. Without realising.
So, the moment we lit the burners, the entire stove caught on fire...
Thankfully this didn't last very long, but in the meantime we all just basically stood there, watching the huge flames, and wondering what to do if they didn't die down.
*In retrospect, this was a very good decision.

Date: 2009-01-28 10:17 pm (UTC)Sorry, that's just funny.
We set it up on the table so it won't need to get moved, and slo-o-o-o-o-w-l-y pour the metho in. We also put the whole thing on a baking tray, and have the door open and fire extinguisher handy Small kitchen-sized fire extinguishers to be had at Bunnings for about $20 or so.. Honest.
What's exciting is when the oil from the pot starts running down the outside (no matter how many time y'tell people not to let it drip from their forks down the outside), and the flames get it....wheeeee!
It's a very nervous meal, for me....
