Okay. So I was curious – and that tends to result in polls.

All the Buffyverse characters tend to get rather angsty from time to time, but I was wondering, who has the most justification for being angsty?

This poll isn’t concerned with actual angst-levels, but with the reasons behind any angst that could potentially happen.

Also – I haven’t chosen any particular timeline. Some characters have their angst-quotient increase towards the end of the series, while some are pretty angsty halfway through. So, yeah, Xander’s already lost an eye, while Riley’s still back in season 5… just go with it…

Angstiness. Not angstyness ;-)

Yeah, I know...

But, even though I know "angstiness" is more correct, "angstyness" looks more correct, if that makes sense...
*shrugs*

It doesn't look more correct, because everyone knows that if it ends in a y but you add a suffix, then that changes it to an i :-)

Picky, picky, picky...

Next you'll be wanting me to punctuate correctly.

I'm sure it was!

I only have a couple of answers figured out myself - but there's one in particular I'm sure of... and this poll is mostly to see if anyone agrees with me on that one.

I think I had the hardest time btw Darla and Andrew's reasons to be angsty. Seriously, Darla did not have an easy existence on these shows...

You know, someone blessed with superpowers who spends all their time murdering the crap out of everyone they meet doesn't get a whole lot of sympathy from me.

I actually find Drusilla the most tragic figure in the 'verse. She was someone who was truly pure and committed to doing only good. She was violated, tortured, killed, forced to live a "life" that her real self would've been horrified by, and to top it all off, she lacks the ability to even have a true understanding of any of it.

Good point.

Isn't it funny how she's such a tragic character, and yet portrayed in a very comic way a lot of the time?

So will the winner of each round go forward to a three-way face-off? :-)

Ooh, man - this was very tough. Although a very humorous little poll - I loved your descriptions.

I kept choosing someone for most angsty, and then read the least angsty and went, "Eh, yeah, they don't got that many troubles" and then flipping back and forth. :(

BTW, plz keep making polls! They make my heart skip around and dance and sing 'The Sound of Music' in my chest cavity.

Which is a little awkward, but fun.

I'm not sure I really did this properly... For the most deserving I picked Dawn kind of out of pity, because she doesn't get to angst without being called whiny, while the rest of them get away with the most unrepentant melodrama. Then Wesley and Darla because they do angst so damn well. Angsty!Wes r0xx0rs!

Otherwise, Kennedy has absolutely no reason to angst whatsoever (yay, proper answer!), Angel won't even admit that he was the same guy who killed all those people (plus, he pisses me off) and Willow pretty much engineered her own problems.

That isn't exactly a reason to sympathize with him. Dude was a mass murderer, and what does he get for it? Superpowers, immortality, and all of the hot chicks. And he still whines all the time.

Good grief, that was difficult. I'd say of all, Riley has the least to be angsty about of anyone. Connor pretty much tops the angsty justification, though. I mean, his entire life was FUBARed up.

I chose Dawn cause not only was she not really real at first, she's insignificant with no powers, no license, no friends...it's pretty sucky. Also, she's kind of lame.

I chose Connor cause, obvious choice. I mean, that dude has had it bad almost since point one--how could it not be him?

Out of that third list I chose Lilah, cause...man of course a woman with that much power and success would fall in love with a jackass who's too dumb to fall in love with her properly. Poop.

I chose Buffy, Illyria and Andrew for the last three cause to a point, I felt as if Buffy was just creating her own unnecessary drama, Illyria's bad ass and sure, her army was dead and all, but again, she's bad ass among all of the insipid humans, and Andrew, well, he's finally in an "in" crowd which he wanted for so long, and Spike, who he has a big girly crush on, tolerates him, and allows him to hug him, so yeah :P

That was, um, a lot harder than I thought it would be. I kept thinking that a character like Tara had tons to be angsty about but wasn't the type to be angsty at all. But that's not what you asked! Darn you for making this so hard. :)

The only easy one was Connor, because he was fucked over by the universe the minute he was mentioned in a prophecy. His life was created to be one giant easily-manipulated angst ball.

What do you mean? Because he said «I» when talking about his past evil deeds? It's hardly a new thing. He does it most of the time. Beginning with the first time he talks about Angelus, on BTVS season 1...
