At the request of [livejournal.com profile] lavastar, here are some photos of my cross-stitches.

This is the first cross-stitch I ever made:

I chose it because it was the most complicated one in the cross-stitch store, and I was 16 and wanting to prove I could do grown-up-level artwork.

It travelled all the way to Germany with me, and then all the way back...

This was in case Alex was a girl:

Being a boy, he got the other one instead. I don't have a photo of that one, because it's on his bedroom wall.

This was my graduation present to myself:

I finished it the week after I handed in my thesis.

And this is the one I'm in the middle of:

I am currently getting remarkably sick of muddy browns and greens. And hoping I can finish this one quickly, so that I can get onto the next one. That has purple.

Oh, you must! Cross-stitching is so much fun when you start getting lots done...

Wow! Aren't you talented?! Not that I'm surprised, of course, but...well, I guess I am.

Thanks for sharing, hon. They're beautiful.

Thanks!

They're really the perfect artform for klutzy people - you can go back and fix any mistakes, wonderfully easily. :)

*accepts your awe, graciously*

You asked why I do them when they're so boring? Apart from the something-to-do thing, that's why - they end up looking so pretty. And I end up feeling accomplished.

Those are really wonderful - although I can see why you might get a bit fed up with browns and greens in the current one!

They take just long enough for me to get thoroughly sick of the colours in whichever one I'm doing...

It is fun! :)

Your post got me thinking that I *really* should try to find the time to get started with my "Sleeping Bambi". It's *so* cute, and it's been waiting to be done for months now...
