Note To Self

Dear Self,

You have an abysmal sense of smell. (You might have noticed this, having now had this nose for over 27 years.)

Because of this, if you should happen to step in dog poo, it might take a while for you to notice, if you're only going by how it smells.

If you've been walking around outside in dog-inhabited areas of the world, it might be a good idea to check your shoes.

And if you don't check your shoes, but instead walk inside, across your cream-coloured carpet, sit down at the desk, and cross your legs underneath you - a position in which your left foot will be touching your right pants leg and simultaneously rubbing against the chair cushion...

...and should you happen to end up with poo smeared all over the carpet, the chair, your jeans, and one entire sneaker before you realise something smells funny...

...then DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.

LOL, I know. Yesterday, something happened that sent me into a completely hysterical giggle fit, and I couldn't stop laughing because I kept thinking in my head how I'd describe it on LJ, and it would set me off again.

Now that I think about it, it really wasn't even all that funny... (It didn't even make it into the LJ entry.)

Can you like smell at all? I know there are some people who just can't really smell anything, and it fucks up their sense of taste and such...

Well, I can smell. Kinda. But my sense of smell is notoriously crap - if stuff in my fridge has gone off, I sort of vaguely notice something weird, sniff it heaps to check, and give up and hand it to my mother... who promptly goes "Eeurgh. You should have thrown that out weeks ago."

So, yes, I can smell. But no-one should ever rely on me managing to smell something.
