My housemate's boyfriend lent me season 2 of Torchwood.

Last night, he came into the living room and found me yelling at the TV: "Crappy show! You're being so STUPID! And Jack is not the centre of the universe! Crappy show! Shut up, all of you!" ...over the top of Jack trying to talk meaningfully to his team in a very heartfelt way.

Given that he had, as I said, lent me the show (after I asked him nicely if he would), I think he was a little surprised.

He was even more surprised when I grinned happily and promptly kept watching it.
...and then yelled some more a few minutes later.

Torchwood is insanely stupid and annoying, but very fun to watch - in a masochistic sort of way.

This is why what happened in the fourth ep of COE did not surprise me, because honestly, given the towering colossal stupidity of TW, it really should have happened long before.

It really, really should.

(These people come up with the dumbest plans! Most of the time they don't even have a plan - and they still somehow think they do!)

I agree. Some people take it all terribly seriously, though. After TW: CoE, which is a whole different kettle of fish, I recently rewatched the final episode of season 2 with a friend and she was most indignant when the title sequence with the Jack voiceover and the slo-mo power shot had me in fits of hysterical laughter.

I'm generally torn between fits of laughter and moments of rantiness...

I do love Torchwood - but can't (basically) stand Capt Jack! Season 2 I love Capt John (of course!!) - but really liked Tosh and Owen.

But most of my friends are both Jack and T/Wood fans!

See, I love Capt Jack on Doctor Who, but can't stand him on Torchwood...

(Capt John is rather fabulous, really.)

Oh yes - on Dr Who great - and you see that in some of the T/W episodes ... the rest ... !!!!

Torchwood is insanely stupid, I agree, but somehow S3 was really an improvement I wouldn't have thought possible.

From what I've heard of CoE, I'm not sure whether I'd love it or hate it. I guess I'll see...

Hey, Jack is the center of the universe. Trufax. :)

I haven't had the time to watch CoE yet, though, so all may change.

Oh but I *love* the stupid. I mean cyberwomen in high heels and resurrection gloves and stopwatches and *ridiculous* plot holes and we-can-save-the-world-with-sex and CANON mpreg and OTT angst and... Oh my show! (This vid basically. ETA: Spoilers for CoE, btw.)

But still very rant-worthy.

Well it's crack. As someone once said:

"It involves alien-hunting and a cyborg fighting a pterodactyl, and I am quite, quite certain that every single pairing is canon. Just watch an episode, pick any two of the main characters, and I can pretty much assure you that it's either canon or will be canon in the near future. It's just a fanfic-writer's dream."

Just keep repeating 'These things happen when you're on a Hellmouth rift in time and space' and you'll be fine. ;)

Damn. We should have had a Torchwood bitching session while I was down in Oz.

I've just started watching the new season... and it's a little better. But only a little; there are still plenty of "How in the hell did this look good in writing? Because the only excuse right now is if the BBC has a strict equal-opportunity hiring policy for its writing staff." moments.

We really should have!

It's quite ridiculous - but still, unfortunately, interesting enough to keep me watching.

(Happy birthday, by the way.)

Ohhhhhmigod. It is SO nice to have someone who understands! Cause I have one friend who agrees TW is ridiculous, but still kind of likes it - and then three friends who get very very unhappy when I bash it and won't talk to me about it. One of them paid I believe 15 pounds while over in England for a Ianto figurine. (And went over to Cardiff just to stand in the places where they film TW.) Yeah. Um...yeah.

It's pretty amusing to make fun of with my understanding-friend, but sometimes...ugh. I'm 99% sure most people just watch it because it has Gay Characters Who Make Out, Yum Yum, We Love Gay People, Fangirl Splode. Which...okay, but shouldn't the show have something else going for it besides men making out before you start declaring it The Best Ever?

After me, my understanding-friend and two of my TW-fangirl-friends got together to watch the Dollhouse premiere, we watched some TW eps, and while me and u!friend kept giggling and making fun of it, they were all "WE CAN'T HEAR WHAT'S GOING ON PLEASE BE QUIET THIS IS NO JOKE." Sigh.

I mean, really...John Barrowman's face! The fuck?

If you enjoy TW camp, though, I'd highly recommend popping over to Youtube or wherever to give his CDs a listen - they're kind of hilarious.
