At lunchtime today, my friend K. took me to the best wool shop in the city.

(K. is awesome. She's just started working here, and on her first day I found out that she's a Buffy fan, a Dollhouse fan, a knitter, and very fun to talk to.)

The wool shop is SO COOL. It has many many different kinds of wool, and thread, and knitting needles, and crochet hooks, and cross-stitch patterns, and stuff like that.
I spent my entire lunchtime cooing over stuff I really can't afford, and trying to invent reasons why I actually needed to buy them...

Does the sequel to this story end with you fainting from starvation for not eating lunch? Or perhaps arrested for accidentally eating a ball of yarn? :P

I love it when you meet new people and just click. New friends rock!

Did you go to Morris and Sons on Collins St? Personally, I'd recommend shopping somewhere else unless you are looking for something specific. Much of the yarn I have found elsewhere for less. They do have some of the better brands of knitting needles.

For knitting Lincraft has the best range of cheap knitting needles amd crochet hooks. Spotlight has the best range of cheap pure wool yarn if you want to buy a ball or two.

If you're doing a large project, for pure wool, it is best to order from Bendigo Wollen Mills - http://www.bendigowoollenmills.com.au/

Craftee cottage has a good range of embroidery flossess and metalic thread. Most of their yarn is either cheaper than elsewhere or something a bit special. They're in Oakleigh so if you wanted to visit the shop in person you'd have to go on a Saturday (closed Sunday). http://www.crafteecottage.com.au/

That's the short list. If you're looking for specific yarn I can probably help find out where it is cheapest.

Isn't 'I WANT IT' a good reason?

Sometimes...

a) you can get one item, not 10.

b) You can just get the item for yourself, if you say it is a reward for a particularly difficult job done. It can work as a motivator :)

c) You can try and save up.

d) I'm out of ideas, but I totally relate with liking really pretty things!
