While depositing money at the bank today, I discovered that someone had, at some point in the recent past, given me a 20c coin from Fiji, instead of an Australian one.

(20 cents from Fiji is exactly the same size, colour, and basic look as an Australian 20 cents. But it's not legal tender, so banks won't accept it.)

My first thought:
"Ack! Some bastard has given me the incorrect coin so that he could get rid of it! How horribly unfair! Stupid horrible person!"

My second thought:
"Hmm. Next time I have to give someone loose change, I'll have to surreptitiously hand them this one, so it can be their problem instead of mine..."

The irony didn't really strike me until a few minutes ago.

Heh. I sense a parallel to US/Canadian currency.

That's exactly what happens here with Canadian quarters...

Could you find a candy machine or something that would take it? Ooooo or maybe an old jukebox! Then you could give back to everyone with the sweet, beautiful music you paid for with your money of trickery. :D

*g* Grasshopper, strive for enlightenment. "Someone has passed me a coin not of this realm. How fascinating. Let me add it to my collection of non-legal tender, and enjoy the cultural differences it demonstrates."

Someone slipped me a Spanish coin earlier this year. Pesetas, not Euros, so it's not legal anywhere, anymore. How long has that been circulating, I wonder...

I am afraid I'd put it into a parking ticket machine...

Hahaha. I would probably keep the coin, and tell myself, "Well, I'll just have to go to Fiji sometime to spend it!"

This is why I still have my leftover British pence - it means I'll just have to go back.

Oh! Oh! Oh!

Send it to me!

I love it when Iget a foreign coin in my change. I sort of collect them, not seriously, but I always think that I'm sorta meant to have them :-)

Weird, I know. But then, that's also sorta my dictionary efiniton :-)

Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
Ray.

Ah, NZ coins...they always get palmed off as small change as soon as I notice them...
I got a Fijian coin once, that was unexpected. It's gone into my box-in-the-desk-filled-with-odd-coins.
