The world really doesn't like people who don't like computers.
Yesterday, it was my rent.
I'm used to paying my rent by going to the bank, getting out money, walking over to the other bank, giving them my money, and thus my rent is paid. In person.
Now, though, it's all different. I got a letter yesterday informing me that, from now on, the real estate agents have set up a new CardPay! system (they always have exclamation marks for stuff like this) so that my rent payment will become Quick and Simple and So Incredibly Easy.
...all I have to do is use my shiny new card to pay over the phone! Or on the internet! Woo!
*grumbles and glares at the world*
And now it's my uni course.
When I applied for my lovely new course, I had two options: applying on the internet, or applying by paper.
The internet hates me. And with anything like that, you can almost guarantee that it will kick me offline mid-application and then stubbornly inform me I've "already applied" when I try to start again. The uni would end up with something half-filled-out - probably in Spanish.
So, I applied by paper. Hooray!
Then, last week, I got a wonderful email from the uni, giving me the good news, and informing me that all I had to do now was accept my offer.
Specifically, they said this:
My eAdmissions portal. I had not heard of this. The email made no further mention of it. The uni website made no further mention of it. It did not, in fact, appear to exist at all.
So, alternatively, I replied to the email. And told them I was delighted to accept their offer.
...and they sent me a very stern reply, informing me that I needed to follow the steps outlined in their original email to accept.
I pointed out that the original steps included replying to the email. I pointed out that I'd done exactly that. I asked what an eAdmissions portal was. I got no reply.
So... once again, I had to navigate my way through the uni's labyrinth of a phone system, to try and find someone who could tell me how to accept my course offer.
*sighs*
That just took me twenty minutes.
Eventually, I found someone who knew what was going on - and told me that, in fact, the eAdmissions portal was something you get when you apply online. If you apply by paper, you have to... um... well, you have to reply to the email, get back a stern berating and a following icy silence, navigate the phone system (praying desperately that your mobile doesn't run out of batteries before you find the right person to talk to), and plead your case in helpless tones until they give in, open your file, and tick the box that says "Accept".
Come on, universe! You know about my computer problems! Stop arranging the world so that I have to use them even more!
