deird_ljOn the one hand, I'm rolling my eyes and fighting urges to write really snarky crack-fic.
On the other hand, I'm thinking about Spiderman.
Because, you know, Peter Parker made a deal with an evil being - a deal that erased his entire marriage and half his life. And now he's a single guy living in New York, and Mary-Jane has disappeared completely.
I guess my point is... yes, season 8's a trainwreck. But it could be a lot worse.
(So: challenge for you. Comment in this post with exactly how it could be worse.
Could Buffy become a rock star, and make all the other Slayers her backup singers? Could Dawn turn out to have been evil since season 5? Could Angel have decided to erase magic from the world and mass-murder people? Oh, wait...)

Date: 2010-01-09 07:30 pm (UTC)I think that Angel being Twilight, on the face of it, somewhat undermines the massive redemption arc of ATS and (I understand) the Angel comics. However, I suppose that the 'why' is currently missing from the discussion and it may clarify things. How it would do that though, is anyone's guess.
Without having read much of S8, I think I would be more disappointed if Twilight turned out to be Giles. (This is possibly impossible.) Or maybe even Spike, because he doesn't seem possessed of enough sturm and drang to have constructed the big evil ideology. I kind of agree with the commenter on Whedonesque who described S8 as Joss's crackfic. None of this discussion is making me want to pick up where I stopped reading.

Impossible? Hmmm...
Ooh! What if it's time-travelling!Giles? From the 70's? And actually, what he's feeling guilty about from his Ripper days is that he time-travelled into the future and tried to wipe out the Slayers? (That makes sense, surely?) :D
