Gardening!

I concluded my wonderfully relaxing day (still not back at work...) by extensive weeding - and then by pulling up two dead trees, weeding even more, digging a big hole, and transplanting another plant to a completely new location.

I came inside completely covered in dirt, and sweating profusely, and retreated to a bubble bath of relaxingy goodness.

When I pulled out the dead trees, I discovered that the ants I keep trying to get rid of have been camping out under those trees in an attempt to stop me wiping them out. When I attacked, they panicked, and landed all over me (amongst splatters of dirt), where they promptly started BITING. (I didn't even know this sort of ant could bite. And it hurt.)

This was the other reason I really needed a bath. Only way to get lots of teeny bitey creatures off me.

I've put in an awful lot of effort this evening, over all.

Is it possible to become an avid gardener against your will?

Ooh, are they tiny innocent-looking black ones? We have those! I was minding my own business outside, not even standing in their multi-lane ant highway, when suddenly I felt a prick on my arm...yup, little anty burying his fangs into me. For no reason! Little bugger. So he goes to ant-heaven, and I go back inside. Even when leaving them alone, they attack... :-(
PS- Yay for gardening and weed-removal! May your transplanted plant grow well.

Yep, same kind of ants. It really hurts, too.

SO hoping my tranplanted plant stays alive! I keep sneaking out and feeding it illegal quantities of water...

Seriously, you should get your folks to put a rainwater tank in...then you can water as much as you want, when you want. :-)

Hee! Gardening is good for the soul. If sometimes a bit hard on the body. :)

ouch. I hope they weren't fire ants... does Australia have fire ants?

Mississippi does, and when they bite, it burns, oh how it burns.

I don't think we have fire ants down here. We do have bull ants - but they're a lot bigger than the ones at my house.

Gardening can become addictive. Just a little more...and then a little more. Weeding and tree removal is the first step.
Be careful, you can become besotted. Don't go near a garden center. Be warned!

Eek! I knew ants were evil! Is there some kind of stealth bomb ant killer you can throw into the holes?

Not if I want to plant anything there...

You could put ant traps all around it and then pour hot water down it... You just want to be able to get away really fast!

Gah! Bitey ants! No no no no noooo that sounds so gross and painful! Poor baby! *hugs*

But yeah, hobbies tend to do the choosing, not the other way around, right? :P

What did you transplant? And to where?

Climbing plant, to the front fence. It was already looking very unwell, so I figured I might as well move it and see if it would survive the trip.
