Say there's no magic...

(Characters are chosen based on whim, and because I managed to think of stuff to write about them.)

Your poll really needed multiple choice answers...

Buffy wanted to move to Europe but her parents' divorce and mother's death of cancer put a crimp in those plans. She still managed to make a career for herself as a fashion consultant due to her force of will, but she occasionally wondered why it felt like something was missing from her life.

Giles played in a band in his 20s (with Ethan), but never made it as a rockstar and went back into academia, which he really preferred.

Xander matured and became more confident, just like the stage directions in episode 1.01 said he would, but he was still a geek. He might well have ended up a carpenter too, though it would take longer without the boost from the ferrula gemina spell in 'The Replacement'.

Even if this was a world which had never had any form of magic, I'd trust Willow to find a way to get it back. :-) Otherwise, she probably would work in IT. She'd still realise she was gay after she reached university, even if it didn't happen quite the same way as on the show. She'd get involved in some form of political activism and hook up with someone through that, but it probably wouldn't be Tara.

Spike looked after his mother until she died, worked in the City, lowered his standards and married someone he didn't really love, and secretly wrote poetry in his journal reflecting on what might have been. He died peacefully in his sleep in 1923.

Cordelia's dreams of fame died, but she was practical enough to make the best of the life she ended up with, and she was happy.

A world without magic doesn't have mystical Keys. Alternatively, if it's only THIS world that has no magic, the Key continues to exist extradimensionally, but it's not called Dawn and doesn't have a sister.

Would he have needed the confidence boost if he hadn't spent four years as "the ordinary one" in a group of extraordinary people?

But on the other hand, that way he also wouldn't have Buffy as a role-model to inspire him to deeds of greatness. Xander in 1.01 was pretty much the class clown, an outsider, struggling academically, and with parents who dragged him down and told him he was worthless and wouldn't amount to anything. Breaking free of that would take some effort and maybe some luck.
