THERE ARE LITERALLY GOLF-BALL SIZED HAILSTONES HITTING MY HOUSE RIGHT NOW! SERIOUSLY! HUNDREDS OF THEM!

Have a very scared cat on my lap, am staying away from windows, and really wishing I'd put my car in the garage.

Ditto on every point there. And no longer shall I be able to say, "Oh, we never get hail in Melbourne like I used to see in Sydney." This was definitely a Sydney-style hail storm... first one I've seen in the six years I've lived here.

You get these normally in Sydney?! Wow.

THEY BROKE OUR WINDOW.

SERIOUSLY.

...as for Matt's gazebo...

Well, we didn't get hail storms all the time but when we did they'd usually look like this. As in, whenever the weather report mentioned hail, people would run out to put their cars away or drape blankets and doonas over them. I don't even want to think about my car right now... which is parked outside my house because I was going to go out again later this afternoon. Sigh.

Be safe.

I'M NOT SURPRISED.

(Actually, I am surprised that all my windows appear to have emerged unscathed. The sound they were making was so huge!)

The worst of it seems to have passed, thank goodness...

It is indeed summer.

It seriously went from full daylight, bright sunny day, hot as anything, to (within a few minutes) pitch black, huge amounts of thunder, hailstones hitting everything, windows rattling, THE WORLD IS ENDING type of weather.

Now it seems to have settled into humungous amounts of rain, within occasional thunder - but no more golfballs, thankfully.

WE MOVED THE BOYS OUT OF THE LOUNGE BECAUSE WE WERE SO CONCERNED THE WINDOWS WOULD BREAK. WE HUDDLED IN THE FAMILY ROOM.

Which was wise.

And now I'm waiting for Matt to finish bemoaning his gazebo and his car before I try to vacuum up any glass.

Unbelievable.

We still have a pile of hailstones in our fernery. Plus our house leaked in two places (we have no dry towels left) and my sister's bedroom window got cracked.

Fun times :)

We lost four windows and my car is dented beyond belief. We had fist sized hail here.

We were in a church when the hail hit. It was LOUD on that roof. Couldn't hear a word the couple getting married were saying, but they have the rings to prove it and they signed on the dotted line so we're going to trust they said the right things.

The car was all right once we got to it, no dents or anything, but when we got home the skylight was busted. Fortunately the folks were home when it happened and were on the phone to get it sorted.

ACK! We had a random bout of ball-bearing sized hail and that was scary enough - glad to see in the comments that it's gone now.

Meep - looking at the comments as well as the post I'm not surprised you and the cat were huddling together.

Is the car dinted?

So bummed I missed out on all this! :-(
We didn't get anything so fun out here, and by the time I trained into the city Saturday evening, there was flooding on the roads and hail puled up on Spencer Street Station roof, but that was about it.

My in-laws' car got dented! Honestly, if you have a garage in which to put your car, why not go out and rescue it? The hail's hardly gonna kill ya, but it will damage the car! :-/

Stoopid storm did cause flood-damage to our convention venue though, so areas of RMIT were unusable, causing major congestion and annoyance in the now much-more-crowded areas in which we had to fit...and, causing it all to start about *two hours late*, which made for a very, very long and stressful day. :-(

puled? I think that was supposed to say 'piled'. :-p

Sorry if this is an insensitive thing to ask, but I'm just so curious...can people share photos of the giant hailstones/ damage/ storm-in-progress? The last time we had hail I ran around photographing it...the stones were very small, maybe the size of half-a-pea...

Actually, in this case, I was rather concerned that I might get concussion from the golfball hail! There was so much of it!

And car-wise, my garage door was going to get belted round in the wind if I tried opening it, and maybe fall off or something - so I decided to risk leaving the car out there.

Oh okay, killer hail, huh? Sorry, all I've ever experienced has been the tiny ping-ping hail, so it's hard to imagine ones the size of golfballs!

Mmm,fair enough then. So nothing else damaged? Garden okay?
