I asked my boss months ago if I'd be able to rearrange my hours so that I could do an afternoon subject for my course, and have been working under the assumption that it was still going to be okay.

And now that I've actually asked him about the specific afternoons...

"You need to apply for leave on those afternoons. No, you can't just work later on the other days. Use your leave."

Which means I'll have much less holiday time available this year. :(

That stinks.

You would think that they'd try to accommodate someone furthering their education.

that's seriously lame.

I mean, how much flexibility has been demanded of you, after all?

That's just stupid. I'm sure your work isn't *that* time-sensitive... Not like mine, with scheduled classes that have to happen when they're scheduled.

Surely you should be able to just swap a few hours around. It doesn't make sense.

Most people I know in a situation like yours find themselves with a lot more holiday time available. In the gap between where they leave an inflexible company and get hired somewhere else.
