Mez in Marysville

On Tuesday I ate beetroot and actually liked it.
What was the cause of this extremely freakish happening?
Away at Marysville with work, eating hotel food. It being a conference, you get three possible dinner choices - generally chicken, steak, and vegetarian. I picked the steak. Didn't really notice what else was included.
As it happens, the cooks weren't brilliant. They tended to overcook the food - which meant, for once, I got steak the way I like it (almost black). And all the roast vegies were pretty black on the outside too. So, I thought the piece I was putting in my mouth was really really burnt pumpkin, and didn't quite register that it wasn't black, but purple...
Despite my absolute loathing for beetroot in all its forms, I quite like it if it's roasted until it's almost burnt.
