Really? What do people who don't have enough closet space do? I'm trying hard to imagine this, and it isn't working. I've never lived in a house where I had enough space to fit all of my clothes in the closet. And where do people put their underwear and such--things they can't hang up?
I messed up on this one - I would find not having a dresser super weird too! I do have one, I just think of wardrobes/armoires as these crazy elaborate British hiding-from-the-bombs-and-going-to-Narnia contraptions, which are very different from my humble it-has-drawers thing.
Ohhh, I've pinpointed it! The difference in my mind is that a wardrobe is basically a free-standing closet - doors open, and your clothes are all hung up. Whereas a dresser or chest has pull-out drawers that you place clothes in. One is for stuffy rich peeps, and the other is for average Joes. :)
Oh, okay! Yeah, I don't know anyone who has one so tall that you hang things in it. My armoire has two drawers on the bottom, and then you open the doors up top and it has shelves for you to put your (folded) clothes on, plus another drawer. You definitely don't hang anything in it.
