Lilac's health issues are getting worse. She's now pausing mid-program every couple of minutes.

I should be fixing her, but the next possible step is erasing the entire hard drive and then reinstalling everything.

If it makes you feel better, I've determined that if my computer were a child, I would have been reported to Child Protective Services long, long ago.

My computer is ill, too.

The memory is getting so bad that I CAN'T WATCH STEPHEN COLBERT CLIPS BECAUSE THEY WON'T DOWNLOAD.

This is getting serious.

Cancel that.

I may have deduced the root of the problem: me.

Specifically, I think I used up our internet watching House on livestream the other day. *facepalm*

Darn. I really, really wanted to see why he's showering in coffee and passionately reuniting with and begging forgiveness from a Starbucks cup (two separate clips, but they suggest a fascinating relationship with coffee that MUST BE CHECKED OUT).

And we still have 10 days of May left. Ack!

*wonders what on earth she will do with her time until June*

I don't care. Totally worth it.

Maybe it's time that you come to terms with Lilac's situation. She's not getting any younger... but if you love her, you will help her to enjoy these last moments she has left.

You should take this time to go with her to all the sites where you've had so much fun together. Play games with her. Or even just hold her close as you listen to the music you love.

Just a thought: When you mentioned how Lilac was forgetting the date it made me wonder if perhaps it was the motherboard's battery. There's a small battery on the motherboard that maintains just enough trickle current to keep settings which include (ah ha!) the date between powerups. Like all batteries they have a finite life span and sometimes go belly up. Now that's about the limit of my knowledge - I'm more software than hardware. However, if that's the case then I think that the good news is that it's fixable but the bad is that it's really something a tech has to do. Probably not very expensive to do though.

Hopefully I'm not talking out of my ass here; it's really not my area.
ETD: Where I heard about this was in a friend's computer years ago that kept "forgetting" that he had a second hard drive.

Alas for poor Lilac.

I never got to say goodbye to my desktop.
