Particularly my computer. Which is currently reinstalling from my backup.

Yep. My May 15th backup. Prior to me reorganising all my bookmarks, getting an iPhone, finishing Plants vs Zombies, writing several stories...

Computers are machines. Machines are, at bottom, malign and have an inner life of their own. The little gears and whirligigs inside, even be they solid state, grind away not just in ignorance of our wants and needs, but in direct opposition to them. Harsh? Nah! It's whapped me in t he face to many times to any longer deny it. They're out to get us. And when there's a crash that wipes out some needed thing before it was backed up or when the entire thing decides to take a nosedive into the great computer beyond, that slight whirring sound is really a mechanical chortle of glee, as the danged thing cherishes the difficulty it's leaving in its wake. Grrrrrrrr! Argh!!

It really is.

I currently have a computer that
1) has no files
2) won't turn on without a special dvd in it
3) has no dock (the "start menu" equivalent)

So, basically, I can insert a dvd, turn my computer on, and access... um... the time and date. And a couple of security features.


AND IT WON'T BE FIXED FOR OVER A WEEK.
