This is the one time of... well, ever... when I get passionate about the footy.

The Grand Final is tomorrow! Carn the Pies!


Tensions are running high in the office: loud jokes are being made about the parade today (with "It's Collingwood marching, so keep an eye out for pickpockets" being a running theme), and lots of Collingwood fans are stubbornly wearing black and white.


For those ignorant foreigners in our audience, the footy is played here:

Also, Collingwood (my team) are the most depised one of the lot...

It took me nearly 20 years in this country to figure out what 'carn' meant. I'm so glad I'm not in Geelong at the moment. Riots, riots everywhere ...

It had struck me that "Carn the pies" might bemuse the international readers of this LJ, given its apparent lack of reference to either Collingwood or barracking.

Man, I haven't watched an Aussie Rules game in a million years. There was a time about twenty-five years ago when my roommate and I would search all our cable channels for late-night replays of games by teams whose names we couldn't even spell, all for the joy of watching men in raincoats signaling scores and announcers bellowing "He's got the mark!" It was a lot more fun than most American pro sports, certainly.

Gotta say I WISH Aussie Rules was broadcast in the States. I would watch that above U.S. football ANY day. Far more entertaining! (yes, I'm american)

Heard the most wonderful joke on Radio 4 just a few minutes ago.

It was on a programme about the evolution og Gay comedy in the UK in the last thirty years.

An Aussie Gay Comic said something like this, "Australia is at the same time the most homophobic place, and also just about the gayest... I mean look at Footy. It's like a two hour Turkish Bath!"

I was standing right by my radio at the time, and might well have woken up the neighbours, i was screaming with laughter so loud!

Hope the game is/will go well for you. Saw a Channel Ten report on You Tube, and Collingwood seemed to be a lot friendlier to their fans.
