My cat has a very weird strategy when it comes to food.

I feed him in the morning - generally right before I go to work - and then leave him to it, confident in the knowledge that I've given him about enough so that he'll finish it mid-afternoon, and just be starting to get hungry again by the time I get home.
And I calculate it fairly well, for the most part.

But mostly, when I get home, there's still some food left in his bowl.

And it's not that he's not hungry - because the moment I walk through the door, he races to his bowl, finishes the last bits, and starts meowing piteously for more, because I'm STARVING, Mummy, don't you understand?, and he eats his way quickly through the next lot too.

It's odd, really.
It's almost as if he's decided that, every time I go out the door, I might not come back through it again. And he'd better wait, and save up that last morsel of food, just in case it has to last him for the several weeks it'll take before he successfully breaks down my front door and learns to hunt in the wild...

I love your cat stories.

Mine does something similar, but it's almost as if she forgets the bits at the bottom. I have to shake the bowl under her nose before she'll eat. Sometimes, I think she just wants some attention. Also, I think she's spoiled, and wants *new* food, not the leftovers - yuck!

Yeah, they are so picky about leftovers, aren't they?

They sort of look at you like "You expect me to eat this? This filth? It's been in that bowl for nearly half an hour - bacteria have gotten to it! And it smells like bowl... or like air. Air! You really expect me to eat food that smells like air?"

My friend had a cat who would nudge all the food out of her bowl, and then wait for you to cover it with the side of the cloth the food dish was sitting on. And only after her food was buried would she even consider eating it, because she had to find it first.

Aspiring detective cat?

Hee! That's fantastic!

Elf loves nothing more than when I throw bikkies, one by one, across the room, and he has to chase them round the kitchen floor...
