Stupid Healthiness...
Nov. 4th, 2008 01:15 pmThe government decided to give all us public servants free health checks. And, according to health check nurse, my cholesterol is WAY too high.
Given that my family have a habit of dropping dead from heart attacks, this could be a problem.
She's advised me to take long walks at lunchtime (which I was planning on doing anyway), to stop eating fast food for lunch (pity - but very sensible), and to eat less cheese (*cries piteously*).
I've been flipping through my recipe books, looking for yummy non-cheese related recipes... and all my favourite dinners turn out to have far too much cheese. This is not good.
Oh, but CHEESE. I love cheese!
At any rate, my glucose level is actually low, so I'm still allowed to eat massive amounts of chocolate, should I feel so inclined...

Date: 2008-11-04 05:11 am (UTC)Surely just reducing take-away food would be enough...
My blood-test a few weeks ago said I was scarily healthy, apart from incredibly low Vitamin D, due to my working in a basement and never seeing the light of day...
See, if I have a 'very healthy' cholesterol etc, with what I eat...I agree with sabik- get a second opinion, or just cut down a bit on stuff. No need to go sans fromage, (or käselos, which I think sounds far more dramatic.)

Date: 2010-02-05 04:10 am (UTC)1) 1 gram of fat in dairy is 3 grams of cholesterol. So whole milk {~4 grams of fat} has about 12 grams of cholesterol.
2) Low fat cheeses exist! They're usually soft, spread-y cheeses, though.
3) Most cholesterol is made by the body. Eaten cholesterol is a tiny amount.
4) You'll only ever find cholesterol in food from animals -- eggs, dairy, meat.
5) Saturated fat. Watch out. 'nuff said.
6) Watch out for your blood pressure. It along with high cholesterol levels can be deadly. Imagine a hose being pinched, first with low-pressure flow, and then high-pressure flow.
7) If you're a carnivore, watch for the meat intakes. Chicken is very good for cholesterol sufferers. Pork {and lamb} is bad for you, beef -- depends on the part it's coming from.
