Tis The Season

The world is slowly getting into Christmas mode...
The Salvos have mini brass bands at every train station.
My decorations are up: big Christmas tree, and bits of tinsel that I keep accidentally pulling down from the ceiling.
There are mince pies being sold in every supermarket, and "Carols by Candlelight" posters on every street corner. (Do people overseas have Carols by Candlelight? Or is it just us?)
Work is getting more silly and excitable by the day.
Every dvd in JB HiFi has just dropped in price by $30. So tempting...
My church had a kids carols service on Saturday (with silly songs and mini dramas, but no puppets, weirdly).
And it's getting hotter. On Friday, I left for work at 6:45am, wearing jeans and a tshirt. First time I've been completely coatless in months.
I love December.

Date: 2008-12-09 12:29 am (UTC)Oh, wacky Australia. With its upside-down seasons. *giggles* I kind of feel bad for you sorts, seeing as like every part of Christmas stuff is full of snow/reindeer/sleigh references.
And I may not be Christian, but dammit if I don't get my present-buying holiday, too! :P

Carols by Candlelight? Exactly what it says on the tin.
Basically, you'll have a community carols event (usually outdoors in a big park), and everyone will sit on picnic rugs, people on stage will lead carols, and everyone will sing. Plus there are performancey items, and Santa. Also, it's usually done in the early evening, so everyone lights candles and waves them.
Summer Christmas is fun!
You're right, though, it is kinda confusing, what with all the snowy Christmas cards...
We do, however, have our own Jingle Bells.
