Oddly enough, I'm not one for bitter flavours. At ALL.
"Bitters", though, as in the thing you pour in drinks, is really nice. As long as you add it to drinks, and don't try to drink it straight. (REALLY. Don't try to drink it straight.)
I'm still completely staggered that you guys don't have LL&B. It's the standard drink in Australia. Seriously. It's the equivalent of going into a pub and ordering "a beer". No-one needs any clarification - because every single cafe, restaurant, nightclub, bar, and so on serves several hundred LL&B's every day...
Mind you, it being the Outback Steakhouse, I'm not surprised. The majority of their stuff has nothing to do with Australia.
And the dessert name "Chocolate Thunder From Down Under" makes all the Aussies I know stare in amazement, before bursting out laughing. We think the O.S. is extremely entertaining, in its general cluelessness. (They have, at least, stopped referring to the Bloomin' Onion as "an ab-original", which was horrifyingly racist.)
'Chocolate Thunder from Down Under.' (gulps in horror) Do people actually order this? It sounds like... umm, like it belongs in the toilet. Surely the Yanks would have the same reaction...
Oh dear, yes, Outback Steakhouse... Every Aussie who comes across this atrocity gasps in horror at the oh so very 'Australian' (read in a very broad yank accent) aspects of their menu. I could rant on and on about this. Chocolate thunder from down under (*shakes head in disbelief*)
*waves arm in teh air* Ooh, i tried drinking Bitters straight once, when I was young and desperate for a drink.... NEVER again. Blargh.
I like it 'cause it's like a more grown-up thing to ask for than 'oh, i'll just have a softdrink *sigh*' at a pub/ bar...
I had one once that was awful though, I swear the lady had never made one before. She used soda water instead of lemonade. SODA water. Ewwww....I gave it back, and asked for it to be made with lemonade....and watched her make it this time... tsk.
That's why I hate it when people make them and STIR them before giving them to me. You have to get the chance to see the whole thing with the yellow up the top, and the red down the bottom...
...if you live in land that has lemony lemonade, and Bitters, and lime cordial, you're set, no need to travel. If not...well, things can always be mailed. I sent a bottle of Red Cordial to a friend in the US because she had no idea what cordial was...let alone Red cordial... :-)

Honestly, the Australian meaning of the name had never crossed my mind. Now I'll think of that every time I look at an Outback menu...

Read their menu, Aussies, if you haven't!
